If you’re planning for a family photography session in Cincinnati this year, you may be wondering what time of year is ideal for an outdoor session. We all know that Cincinnati weather is unpredictable year around, but after four years of planning sessions for hundreds of families, I have four important factors you need to consider for a beautiful, authentic spring family photography session.
If you have kiddos under the age of five, you know that adherence to a bedtime can be very important for some children. The most beautiful light for an emotive photography session is in the hour or so before sunset; I only schedule outdoor sessions in this time so your images are beautiful and consistent. You know your children’s temperament better than anyone; if you think an earlier session start time will be important for them, I encourage you to schedule a spring session. Once we get to June, session start times often are around 8:00 PM, which may not work for young families. Scheduling in April or May may lead to happier children for your session!
In spring, Cincinnati may have lots of rain but it’s definitely for a purpose. The vibrant spring greens and flowers are everywhere at our beautiful parks and can add a pop of color to your images. After long, dark, snowy winters, many families enjoy getting out in nature with their children and capturing the fun ways they play together during a session.
As part of the Little Bug family session experience, I offer a client closer for mothers. These luxurious, handmade dresses allow mothers to treat themselves and wear something beautiful that they may not normally treat themselves to. This year I have added some beautiful new gowns that are perfect for spring. From beautiful blushes to floral prints, these dresses will add a wow factor to your final gallery (see the whole client closet here)!
I absolutely love the number of Cincinnati families I get to work with every year; I am so honored when families trust me with their precious memories. I have been fortunate that this has meant that my schedule has consistently filled several months in advance for the past several years. Since I offer a membership program for returning clients, they get priority access to my client, and this group of clients schedules most of my autumn session dates. If you would like to schedule a Little Bug session this year (yay!), spring may be your best opportunity to secure a session date. My spring and summer calendar releases on February 1 at 8:00 PM to my email list (join the list here).
