Capturing the First Year | Maternity & Newborn Session in Covington, KY
It is always such a tremendous honor when a fellow photographer books a session with me. There is something so special about having someone who captures other people’s memories entrust me with their own. Jess and Chris are such a fun couple to work with, and now that they have added their newest addition to their family, I am so glad I get to capture his entire first year.
Their maternity session was so special and could not have been on a more gorgeous night; the sunset was absolutely stunning. Jess also had two really common questions for me when booking this session…first, could they include their dogs? And the answer to that is absolutely (if your pets are friendly)! Your furry children are such an important part of your family, and I love to include them in the session. The only guidelines I tend to suggest are that you bring a friend to watch your pets during part of our session, or put the dog(s) in the car for a part of our session (if the weather is agreeable and your pets are not distressed by that).
Her second question was about the number of outfits for a maternity session. For a family welcoming their first child, I often recommend that the expecting mama brings two dresses to our session. This really allows for us to create a full gallery with a lot of variety. If you have other children, I recommend one outfit, as we will get quite a bit of variety just from having 3+ individuals in your session. Capturing a maternity session makes me SO excited for a newborn session and to meet your new arrival. After capturing the anticipation your family is experiencing makes the newborn session even sweeter. When their little boy arrived, I couldn’t wait to capture all the sweet little details of this new family of three.
